This is actually a very neat way of focusing your heat to one spot of your grill, and works very well. I’ve used this on a standard grill because it fits, but it’s best to use with your ceramic. It’s held so far and very easy to load and light your charcoal. Great price and great quality.

I have semi-successfully attempted to smoke food in the Weber a number of times over the years. It’s a bit of a challenge at times. My technique was to put a somewhat large pile charcoal in the center, put the food along the edges and shut down the lid. The charcoal would be significant because I was hoping for a slow smoke. What inevitably would happen is the charcoal would spread out, turning the “smoked” meat into simply another barbeque.
This whirlpool is a complete game changer. It was easy to simply put the heated charcoal into the whirlpool, put the grill on top and spread the food around the perimeter of the grill, avoiding the center flame. Now I can literally put the lid on and leave it alone for hours without worrying about it! The food gets nicely smoked without the sear. However, if you WANT to sear the food, you can simply leave the lid off and put the food over the top of the flame for a minute or two.
Such a simple solution! Love it!
