   I had been reading stories about people getting wire bristles lodged in their throats or intestines and thought it was time to try a different approach to cleaning our grill. I grill at least once a week through the Winter and at least 2-3 times in the Summer so our grill gets a lot of use. Before this I had only ever had a brush with the bristles and I have never been comfortable with how clean it was getting our grill so I would always leave the grill burning before and after cooking to help burn off anything that the bristle brush left behind. I just used my new BBQ-AID bristle free brush today and I’m amazed at how well it worked. I soaked it in a small bucket of water to let it absorb thoroughly and while the grill was about 300 – 400 degrees I started brushing with it, wow what a difference. It immediately steamed and cleaned the grill remarkably well. It got everything off with ease and my grill has never been cleaner since it was new! I will never go back to a brush with bristles. I wish I would have had one of these years ago but I’m so glad I have one now. I give it 5 stars or more if I could and I highly recommend it for everyone. It’s a strong quality brush with a great handle and a hole to hang it up with. It’s a great value!

   As we should know by now, traditional bristled grill brushes are unsafe, and too many times using them has resulted in metal bristles making their way into the food and causing injuries. There are a few other scrubbers that are bristle-free, and I’ve tried several, but they all have downfalls. This one is no exception. What it does very well is scrub the surface of the grill much better than others, even bristle brushes. It’s also easy to clean, unlike the cloth ones that rely on water. This one gives the grill a more thorough scrubbing, which is great. The downside of this one is that it does not get between the grates very well, so you have to use the metal blade on the end to do that. This is not unusual for scrubbers, though. Only the bristle brushes really did that well, and there really is no substitute for it. That said, of all the alternatives, I’d say this brush is the best I’ve used, so I give it a lot of credit for that.

   I acquired this grill brush through Vine.
   I was interested in the product because we generally do a lot of grilling, but the warmer months are here and I always seem to be needing a new grill brush.

   I like this brush. Compared to the more traditional bristle brush, this is designed to retain water and allow you to clean the grates not just through brute force and scrubbing but also by using steam to break up and clean any residue. I also feel the pad better conforms to the grates than rigid metal bristles do. I also don’t have to worry about bristles falling out and potentially getting in any food.

   I also appreciate that the head is replaceable. I never like discarding an entire long-handled brush just because the bristles were worn down. Being able to replace the pads extends the lifespan of the brush and handle. I just need to make sure I have a few brush heads on hand so I can replace them when needed.

   Prior to reviewing this BBQ-Aid Grill Brush, I received a similar (Bristle Free) which my only complaint with was how large and extreme the handle was. In my photos I provide a comparison of the brush heads between the two and THIS brush has a substantially thicker cleaning head and yeah! a simple and shorter handle! I don’t know if this thickness will prove to be a substantial benefit or not, but I am using the two brushes and will let you know if it is. I can tell you that as an avid griller, I have always had an old plastic coffee container to put water in to clean the grates while they’re still hot from cooking and the use of steam is phenomenal to keep your grill ready to go the next night, but I have used various wire and curled wire brushes and these new pad designs do a superb job of cleaning the surface of my Weber stainless steel grates! According to the directions, this cleaning head should last about a year before needing changing and if that turns out to be true, I won’t be as concerned as I am currently, that it takes the removal of 3 phillips head screws to release and replace this head! My only other grip is that the nice wooden handle has a slot which would work for hanging on one of those “S” hooks, but is useless on the 3 hanger hooks provided on Weber grills. A wire loop would have been nice as the other handle had and all of my prior brushes. I’ll just have to rig something through the existing slot to allow hanging it between uses.
