I was planning on making my own from two large pry bars, but the cost of the materials alone would be almost the same as buying these.
As the other reviews point out, the two teeth are held in place with clips. I can see how these would fly off if you were to set the teeth with a hammer. I am planning on welding them but so far I havent had to use a hammer to set them as they bite just fine.
I pulled a dozen large 8-12 foot red oaks behind a back hoe loader with these and they work very well. You do have to be careful that they dont twist, but for at this price point you wont find anything better.

Using commercially to haul large logs out of bush with my 12,000 lb tractor and works quite well, fast set up. No complaints here. Heavy and well constructed, delivered on time, good price. I clear wooded lots professionally. Thanks.

Works great, very sturdy. BUT one of the c-clips that retains spike in the arm disappeared on the third pull. Other than that it worked perfect for an afternoon of dragging logs out of our forest. If not for the c-clip it would be 5.0

We have had a more traditional set of 32” logging tongs that we “way” over worked, 3000-4000 lbs a few times, but they just kept working. Finally the pivot pin broke, and they were in sorry shape anyway, so I ordered these to replace them. Very impressed. The points are a good upgrade, and I would totally buy this type again instead. I haven’t had the chance to put it through any extreme paces yet, but I have no misgivings.

These are great. I have them hooked up to a custom made lift/drag attachment on my 3pt hitch of my 30hp compact tractor and they work awesome. They hold really well and disengage easily with just a little kick of your boot once you take the pressure off the end of the tree. These are much beefier than some of the ones you see that say “up to 17inch”. Those are too small for anything other than fence posts. I can skid 24″dia trees up to about 16″ long and these reach and hold each side easily. I have lifted one end of, and dragged, logs that weigh over 5000lbs. I would highly recommend.

Bought this for my husband after a cheaper pair had broke and almost hit him in the head. The thickness of the equipment feels much more sturdy and safe. He has gotten a lot of use pulling logs with all this horrible winter weather we have been having.

Works great for my tree service. The chin hook comes unhooked easily is my only complaint

I am continually impressed with how well these work. I have moved many 16’ spruce logs over 30” in diameter without issue.

Tongs open wide as advertised but the grapple ends do NOT hold up to the test at all. First use pulling a 23″ diameter by 20 ft white pine bent the tips to the pint where they would not grab – had to file them down. By the 4th pine log, both swivel grapple ends being held in place on the tongs broke free from the lock-washer, rendering the entire tool useless. I ended up welding the grapple ends to the tongs. Not the most ideal method, but it works for now. Needs a better design.
